Nov 17 | 12 PM | NCAN Webinar on FAFSA Updates: Federal Student Aid leaders will share details and answer questions regarding the announcement of the FAFSA launch date.
Nov 29 | 4-6 PM | Midwest College Showcase: First of two opportunities to learn about twenty-seven midwest liberal art colleges in a virtual college fair. Hear directly from institutions about how to apply, earn scholarships, and determine college fit.
Nov 30 | 5-7 PM | Midwest College Showcase: Second opportunity to attend virtual college fair.
Dec 5 | 5-6 PM | STARS Network Panel on Student Support Services: In this panel discussion faculty and staff from Northwestern University, University of Chicago, University of Maryland, and Yale University will talk about the variety of support systems available to students while on their campuses.
SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID
The Handler Scholarship at the University of Rochester has a November 30 nomination deadline. The scholarship is intended for highly academically qualified students with significant financial need who have overcome significant hardships during high school. The scholarship covers more than tuition, provides individualized mentoring, funding to pursue academic or professional enrichment, and access to an alumni network. While all applicants to Rochester are considered for the Handler, educators can also nominate students who they think fit the criteria.
The Hagan Scholarship deadline is December 1. It can be used at any four year institution in the US that is not online. Recipients receive a free Schwab investment account, along with free study abroad.
December 1 is the priority scholarship deadline for most in-state and WUE schools.
The Fidelity Scholars Program is for historically underrepresented students from New Mexico, and a few other states. It is a last dollar scholarship that covers the remaining need after financial aid has been disbursed to the student. It can be used at any institution in the state (public or private) where the student resides. The application deadline is January 11.
The Sunflower Initiative is a $10,000 one year scholarship (with the possibility of renewal) for female students interested in studying at a women’s college in the US or Canada. The deadline is February 1.

7 Cosas Que Las Familias Latinas Deben Saber Sobre Cómo Prepararse Para La Universidad/7 Things Latinx Families Need to Know About Preparing for College: The September 7 episode of The College Essay Guy Podcast featured Lorenzo Gamboa, the Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Outreach at Santa Clara University. The first 23 minutes are in Spanish, and the second half is in English.
Matriculate is a free virtual college advising program for low-income juniors and seniors in high school. Students are paired with a current college student in a near-peer advising model. Late applications are due November 19.
The Golden Apple Scholars Program in New Mexico is a teacher preparation program for high school seniors through sophomores in college in New Mexico. Golden Apple Scholars receive mentoring, paid professional development, academic and social-emotional support, and job placement assistance. Interested students can apply here.
