SCHOLARSHIPS & FINANCIAL AID

The Hadden Scholarship awards up to $5,000 a year year to high school seniors with demonstrated financial need, for up to four years of college undergraduate study. Hadden Scholars must be U.S. citizens matriculating at a four-year accredited college or university established in the United States. There is a minimum unweighted grade point average requirement, 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. The deadline to apply is March 22.

The Cobell Scholarship is for high achieving, community involved college students who are enrolled tribal members. Students can continue applying each year, including graduate school. The deadline to apply is March 31.

The Albuquerque Community Foundation has many scholarships available to students statewide, including one for Youth in Foster Care and another for students who live in a manufactured home (also called a mobile home, modular housing, or a trailer). To start an application for any, register here for an account.

  • The Sussman Miller Educational Assistance Fund (note: this is different than the fund of the same name at Santa Fe Community Foundation and has different rules) is the largest award available. It can award up to $8,000 to cover unmet need for both in- and out-of-state institutions. There is an extensive eligibility quiz to start, and the application has many parts. The deadline to apply for out-of-state colleges or in-state private colleges is April 4. The deadline to apply for in-state public colleges is June 6. Current college students may also apply.

The Santa Fe Community Foundation has two major scholarships. To start an application for either, register here for an account.

  • The Michael S. Currier Scholarship Fund (at Santa Fe Community Foundation) provides renewable scholarships to low-income students from northern New Mexico pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited institution to cover unmet need. This scholarship can be applied both in- and out-of-state, and typically about 20 students are awarded each year. Awards can be big (sometimes up to $10,000) but students won't know if they've won the scholarship until July. The deadline to apply is April 19.

  • The Sussman-Miller Educational Assistance Fund supports students attending in-state public institutions. The deadline to apply is June 7.

ONLINE RESOURCES

You can tour colleges virtually with The College Tour, which also has a show on Amazon Prime.

Our Summer Program Spreadsheet lists over 250 spotlighted opportunities (both in and out of state) and includes a tab that will direct you just to programs which are free or offer significant scholarships. Summer programs are great opportunities for students to engage in deeper, more meaningful ways with subjects that interest them, or even just try out life on a college campus.

It may seem like there are an infinite number of places to turn when it comes to researching colleges– to help, our friends at Santa Fe Prep have organized many of them here.
